Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Dear Robert,
Happy May to you! This year has flown by so far, and I hope it has been as good for you as it has been for us. We have a busy couple of months coming up, and we are excited about it!
#ThankVets this Memorial Day
The first item that I want to discuss is this upcoming Memorial Day, and I want to hear from YOU. This month, I hope you'll help us recognize a veteran who is important to you!
DVNF is calling on you to submit a photo of a veteran who means a lot to you, and help us recognize and thank them for their service. Include a little bit about that veteran, such as their branch of service, rank, dates of service, and anything else notable you'd like to include. Make sure you add #ThankVets with your photo!
You can submit photos on our Facebook page, Twitter page, or you can email them to us at communications@dvnf.org. Once Memorial Day arrives, we will pay tribute to these veterans by creating a photo album on our website dedicated specifically to these individuals. We will also share the photos submitted on our social media sites with our followers.
For more information, check out our blog.
New Grant Recipients!
DVNF's organizational grants are intended to support organizations throughout the country who are addressing the mental and physical health needs of veterans in innovative ways.
Whether it's a group that train service dogs, helps veterans through recreational or art therapy, or any other type of initiative, these grants help make a difference in the lives of thousands of veterans.
The DVNF board has approved 33 new organizations to receive funding for their work on behalf of veterans. We will announce the new grantees in the coming weeks. These new grant recipients expand across the U.S. and are located in 19 different states, so veterans across the country will directly benefit from DVNF's support!
We will also host a luncheon in honor of these organizations in June so that we may properly thank them and award them with funding that will build their initiatives and their capacity to help veterans
Signs of PTSD and What to Do Next
We recently had a guest blogger, Katie Gillie, come by and discuss PTSD. She reminds those who suffer from it that while it can be painful and overwhelming, it is treatable and there are ways to manage it.
More importantly, it's important to remember that you aren't alone. A support group can go a long way to helping you overcome this illness and ultimately live a better life. Take a look at her advice!
I want to thank you for all your support so far this year. As you can see, it is making a difference, and we can't do it without your generosity. Please consider making your gift today, so that DVNF can continue to help our heroes!
Sincerely,
Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.)
